More on security – the network and physical infrastructure and how to protect it against hackers and other malicious activity

Any company that has an IT infrastructure has potential security vulnerabilities in terms of unauthorised access.

We all have a duty of care and there are also compliance regulations that mean we should strongly protect ours and customer data.

How do we test our physical network for vulnerabilities? Well you could wait until it has been breached and deal with the aftermath…. but then it’s too late. Or you could bring in professionals to test it: Penetration Testing (or pen testing for short).

A Pen Test is an authorised simulated cyberattack to identify and plug vulnerabilities on IT networks. It can be very simple to extremely complex.

Organisations should consider Pen Tests yearly or when there are changes to infrastructure or policies; perhaps even after major security patches or upgrades.

Pen tests will not be the same for every company and should be based on variables such as budget and the size of your company. But they are very beneficial.
