2021 is nearly over. We’ll let you decide whether that is good or bad. Something that is always fun to look back on at the end of every year is what the public have been searching for on the web. Google being the most popular search engine, always record and publish the most popular searches at the end of every year and due to this year be another dominated by COVID and restrictions, it will be intriguing to see what the public used their browsers to search for.
Although I said previously that COVID has had a big impact on this year, just by looking at the top searches in the UK, you can tell that 2020 was the year where people got all their COVID research out of the way with little relating to the virus in the top 10 searches. The top 10 searched terms in the UK across 2021 are:
As you can see, only one search relating to COVID breaks in to the top 10 with sport and the Euros in particular dominating the top searches. The global search terms were also incredibly sports heavy:
The pandemic did dominate the top “when” searches however, with “when will lockdown end” and “when will I get my vaccine” topping that search chart. Squid Game was by far the most searched for TV show and Dune, Black Widow and Eternals were the top 3 most searched films.
