Yet again we are being told to ditch older operating systems and upgrade to Microsoft’s Windows 10. Security analysts and indeed, Microsoft, are repeating this message.
Well, Microsoft would say that, wouldn’t they. But is it hype or hyperbole?
Fact – MS are patching security holes quicker in Windows 10 than previous versions of Windows.
Fact – The above means hackers get to know which vulnerabilities exist in older versions of Windows and will attempt to exploit them.
Fact – The above is a double-whammy for Windows, 7, 8 and 8.1 users – firstly, their software is vulnerable, secondly, MS are telling everyone about those vulnerabilities by patching Windows 10 in advance.
Statement from MS – “Additionally, we continually invest in defense-in-depth security, and recommend customers use Windows 10 and the Microsoft Edge browser for the best protection” – Translation: use Windows 10 and please use our browser too. (Editor comment: I like it but still prefer Firefox!)
Our recommendation and advice: you should be using Windows 10 and keeping it up to date.
